Padel for Beginners: Five Things to Know Before Your First Match

New to padel? The rules, the walls and the serve take a session to get used to - here is what helps.

Padel is played in doubles on an enclosed court, and the glass walls are part of the game.

  1. Serve underarm - the ball bounces once behind the service line before you hit it below waist height.
  2. Let the wall work for you - a ball off the back glass is still in play, so give it room instead of rushing it.
  3. Stay with your partner - move as a pair, side to side and up and back together.
  4. Keep it soft at first - control beats power; most points are won by the team that makes fewer mistakes.
  5. Book a doubles slot with friends - it is the quickest way to learn.
